The idea of LGBTQ superhero characters has to be a topic of discussion among Superhero film lovers around the world. it’s becoming a frustrating affair for the LGBTQ community for its lack of representation in the superhero movies as well as Hollywood in general.
It is well known that the LGBTQ stories from the comics are the core source of material for most of this films, yet they are not given a single recommendation. Some countries like Russia are known for her discrimination against the LGBTQ citizens, but still, makes a large portion of box office sales.Thereby, making the LGBTQ community look very invisible to movie lovers around the world.
Here is a look at some of the Superhero films that should have included LGBTQ superhero characters.
The X-Men film
The X-Men franchise is worse than any superheroes because their comic stories for a long time now, is being seen as an allegory for queer oppression.
For instance, Let’s take a look at New Mutants #45, Larry a mutant who committed suicide after he suffered torment from the anti-mutant environment at his new school.Kitty Pryde a close friend of his said, “He thought if people knew the truth, they’d stop seeing him and see only the label, the brand, his personal ‘Scarlet Letter.’ So he hid the truth and lived in terror of being discovered.” This is a definitely a bad idea because some people in the LGBTQ world might find it hard disclosing their sexuality.
Upcoming Marvel film New Mutants won’t be having any excuse for breaking grounds because a very important member of the New Mutants team is a lesbian.
Karma one of the initial recruits of the team in the comics is revealed to be a lesbian and it won’t be making sense if she is not included in the next year’s New Mutants.
This is one of the most diverse films Marvel has produced, Star character Tessa Lynne Thompson has confirmed on Twitter, that her character Valkyrie is the first LGBTQ superhero in a movie. And yet it doesn’t seem to be groundbreaking because it doesn’t appear to be an issue to be addressed.
Other LGBTQ superhero characters includes Batwoman, Iceman, Midnighter, Apollo, Diana Prince, Northstar.
