Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo has won the fifth Ballon d’Or award of his career on Thursday, this pulls him level with his Argentine counterpart Lionel Messi and both players are now the most-awarded winner of Football top individual honors.The 2017 football most prestigious award was presented to the Real Madrid superstar in Paris, an award given to the most outstanding player in Europe.
The Real Madrid superstar who has won the award for the second time in a row, after a year in which he helped his club to a third Champions League crown in four seasons and a first La Liga title in five years, as well as the glorious FIFA Club World Cup.The 32-year old was instrumental to both his club and country, he scored two goals as Madrid beat Juventus 4-1 in the Champions League final in June, while also finishing the competition top scorer with 12 goals.
The award was presented to him at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, with a face full of joy he said:”I feel very happy, it’s a fantastic moment in my career, I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.
“This year has been great, we won the Champions League and La Liga and, on a personal level, I was a top scorer in the Champions League. Trophies help win these awards and we have to thank my colleagues from Madrid and Portugal, it was very important for me.”
Barcelona’s wonder man Messi came second in the voting, The award now conducted by a panel of Journalist from the different parts of the world and organized by France Football magazine.Back in October, Ronaldo also won the FIFA’s top award, being named Best Men’s player of the year an award he has won for the second consecutive time.
Aside from the both Spanish forwards, no one has been able to claim the prestigious award since Kaka in 2007, when Ronaldo was second and Messi third.
Neymar, who made a world record move to PSG this summer, finished third for the second consecutive time.Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon came fourth.Two other Real Madrid players, Luka Modric and Sergio Ramos came 5th and 6th respectively.Paris wonder-kid Kylian Mbappe came 7th on the list.

This is the 10th time a Real Madrid player has claimed the award, a record only bettered by rival club Barcelona with 11.and this is also the seventh time the award is won by a Portuguese player tying them level with Germany and Netherlands.
Ronaldo who also became the first player in history to score a goal in each of the six Champions League group games, he has now scored 114 career goals in 146 Champions League games.
